Special Education
Educational services are provided by regular and special education teachers to students with special needs. When a parent or teacher expresses a concern about a possible learning difficulty, the GIST campus committee will meet several times to assess and recommend classroom strategies. These strategies would include modifications and accommodations in order to help the student achieve academic success. If the parents, teachers and administration agree that a full assessment (FIE) is needed, and Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) committee meeting will be scheduled.
If the full individual evaluation (FIE) determines that the student qualifies for Special Education due to one or more learning disabilities, an ARD meeting will be scheduled to discuss test results and to determine eligibility for Special Education. During the meeting, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be developed which would include modifications, accommodations, and educational goals based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) mandated curriculum.
