Job Goal: The Accountant for Eden Park Academy (EPA) works with the Chief Operations Officer in compiling and ensuring accurate and timely financial statements for the school trustees. EPA utilizes fund accounting to manage federal, state, local, and philanthropic revenue and expenditures ensuring funds have been spent in accordance with grant goals and objectives, if applicable, and all federal and state laws.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, in Accounting, or Finance-related field
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills
  • Utilizes excellent judgment in decision-making process
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Highly motivated, self-starter
  • Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel
  • Strong customer relations skills
Experience:
  • Experience in fund accounting required; experience in public education accounting strongly preferred


Performance Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the data integrity of EPA's fund accounting software
  • Prepares for a successful, external, annual audit in compliance with GAAP
  • Provides the EPA Board of Trustees with accurate and timely financial statements
  • Provides monthly, year-to-date, compilations that help to determine the cost effectiveness of all programs to the EPA administrative team
  • Manages accounts receivable, accounts payable, and human resource functions
  • Manages payroll services, retirement contributions, and other benefit plans
  • Works with the COO to maintain a separation of duties plan within a small organization
  • Compile pertinent data for preparing required state and local reports
  • Assist end-users of finance software in resolving problems and utilize software
  • Prepare correspondence, memorandums, forms, requisitions, and reports for the school's business office
  • Maintain physical and computerized departmental files
  • Provides historical reference by developing and utilizing filing and retrieval systems
  • Contributes to EPA administrative team effort by accomplishing related goals as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
  • Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment through attendance and participation at local, regional, state, and national conferences, attendance and participation in workshops, reading and professional materials
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible
  • Articulate the district's mission and goals to the community and solicit its support in realizing the school's mission

This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., however, the Accountant from time to time may work an extended schedule, including weekends and evenings according to demands of the role and tasks. If a parent and/or teacher recognizes some of the signs of dyslexia, a request for testing can be made. Testing would be done by the Special Education Resource teacher, who has been trained to diagnose this disorder. The parent would be given notice of assessment and must first sign a parent Consent of Assessment form. If the student has dyslexia, a committee of knowledgeable persons would determine whether the student has a disability under 504. Not all dyslexic students qualify for 504 or Special Education.
