The above members comprise EPA's 1st student council, born during the Fall of 2011. As ideas hatch and come to fruition, we all will see what they can accomplish, for themselves, as well as for for the school community at large.
Past projects:
- Coats for Kids EPA donated 186 coats. EPA was voted first place for charter school donors!
- Wrapping Presents for Blue Santa
- Holiday Food Drive to support the Capital Area Food Bank. Congratulations for collecting 136 pounds! More info here.

Student Council Candidacy Requirements*
Complete Application that includes:
- Recommendation from all of your teachers and Mr. Smith
- Grade of C or higher in all classes
100 Word Essay: What does being on Student Council mean to you? What qualities do you think a person in the postion you are seeking should have?
Speech:
- Write a 2-3 minute campaign speech
- Deliver speech to student body (we will video to present to school)
Campaign Posters:
- Positive attributes of self, no derogatory campaigning against another candidate
- All posters must be made outside of school, using no school materials
- Approved by Ms. Spier or Mrs. Kaskoto before posting in the school
*You must complete all candidacy requirements in order for the official ballot to hold your name.
Student Council Positions and Duties
Student Council President (7th - 8th grade students):
- Presides over council meeting with integrity, courtesy, fairness, and respect
- Represents the school in meeting with teachers, the Principal, and PTO
- Responsible for allocating funds
- Participates in events, fundraisers, and projects (1-3 hours per month)
Student Council Vice-President (7th - 8th grade students):
- Assists the President
- Stands in for the President when he or she is not available and conducts meeting with integrity, courtesy, fairness, and respect
- Assumes the duties of the President if the office is vacated
- Participates in events, fundraisers, and projects (1-3 hours per month)
Student Council Secretary (5th - 8th grade students):
- Maintains accurate written records of the meeting (minutes)
- Keeps all reports on file
- Creates meeting agenda for all meetings
- Participates in events, fundraisers, and projects (1-3 hours per month)
Student Council Treasurer (5th - 8th grade students):
- Keep an accurate record of all moneys received
- Deposit money to school account
- Prepare a report ofr the regular meetings
- Participates in events, fundraisers, and projects (1-3 hours per month)
Student Council Member (5th - 8th grade students):
- Represents Student Council on all issues responsibly, respectfully, and positively
- Represents the Student Body at council meetings
- Attends and contributes to meetings in a cooperative manner
- Participates in events, fundraisers, and projects (1-3 hours per month)
